Long Review:

This is the ninth album of children’s songs recorded by veteran troubadour and Grammy award winner Tom Chapin (Harry Chapin’s younger brother) – and true to form, sing-alongable songs featuring silly rhymes and catchy tunes abound. Though all but four of the songs have appeared on other albums, this collection is aimed at Chapin’s youngest fans and their families. Filled with humor and subjects familiar to young children, these 16 songs will take little ones from bathtime to birthdays to bedtime, with lots of fun in between – from the bubbly bathtime song “Bubblin’ in the Bath” to the gleefully silly “State Laughs” (…In Arkansas they go, “Haw haw haw!” / In Tennessee they go, “Hee hee hee!” / In Idaho they go, “Ho ho ho!”) to bedtime with “Blanketville,” a charming “Bedtime Round,” and the comforting “Together Tomorrow,” a duet with Judy Collins. Singing with amiability and simplicity, Chapin’s clear, smooth vocals and folksy guitar, banjo, and mandolin playing make him one of the most popular children’s singer/songwriter performers. For more fun with Tom Chapin, check out his Grammy Award winning reading / performance of Thatcher Hurd’s rollicking picture book, Mama Don’t Allow.
