Short Review:
With no other instruments than their voices, this veteran a cappella group has recorded their first album for “little people,” bringing their soulful harmonizing to popular children’s songs, folk tunes, gospel songs, and medleys.
Long Review:

This soulful harmonizing a cappella group belts out an eclectic mix of 14 selections, mostly popular children’s songs from the 1930s-1960s. There are songs that the vocalists remember singing as children, as well as folk tunes, traditional songs, gospel songs, and medleys, including: a doo-wop nursery rhyme medley; Teddy Bears’ Picnic; Good Morning to You; On the Good Ship Lollipop (a bedtime song originally sung by Shirley Temple in a 1934 film); the hobo anthem, Big Rock Candy Mountain; How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?; On Top of Spaghetti; I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad; and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.
As it says on the liner notes: “This album contains no instruments other than the human voice.” There is hand clapping, finger snapping, whistling, Jimmy’s “basso profundo” voice providing the background beat for the harmonizing, and accompaniment from children singers, The Lollipop Kids A Cappella Chorus – all weaving together to create “a vocal symphony.” The Persuasions’ song selections, and the way the vocalists often speak directly to their audience, and tell side stories to the listeners, give the performance intimacy and sweetness.
