Long Review:

A boy and his dog revel in the snow, which keeps on falling despite the naysaying of the adults around him. Shulevitz won a Caldecott Honor Medal for his illustrations of the transformation of a city from gloomy gray to the brilliant white of snow. And reading with charm and delight in an Eastern European tinged grandfatherly voice, George Guidall brings this simple, joyous tale to life – emphasizing the small boy’s uninhibited delight and lighthearted enthusiasm for the falling snow. The cheerful, whimsical background music slowly builds, adding instruments such as glockenspiel and flute to reflect the building snowstorm, culminating in a joyful celebration, as the boy dances with his dog, Mother Goose characters come to life in the new-fallen snow. Young listeners can follow along with the story uninterrupted by page-turning prompts on one side of the tape, while the other side of the tape offers the help of unobtrusive sounds indicating when to turn the pages –giving plenty of time to look at the charming pictures!
