Short Review:
Fink & Marxer’s soft, soothing voices and gentle tunes make this collection of bedtime songs perfect for that end-of-day winding-down time.
Long Review:

A popular children’s singing/songwriting duo, Fink & Marxer sing gentle, mostly solo ballads about bedtime, going to sleep, dreaming, and whimsical nighttime journeys on this collection of lullabies. Accompanying themselves on banjo, guitar, hammered dulcimer, and accordion, they are joined occasionally by a harp, piccolo, bass, and saxophone. Many of the twelve songs were originally written as “gifts – songs for special children in our lives to give them each a sense of well being before drifting off to sleep.” While all the songs are gentle and peaceful, Fink & Marxer sing in a variety of styles – from the softly bouncy “Swingtime Lullaby,” to the bluegrassy “Grasshopper Sittin’ on a Sweet Potato Vine,” to folksy tunes with a Celtic touch like “Moon, My Dad and Me.” Like a warm musical embrace before falling asleep, all of the tunes feature sweet, reassuring lyrics – “Sleep like a little pea / Growing in the garden / Sleep like a pea / Hanging on the vine / Sleep like a little pea / Growing in the garden / Rocking gently in the warm sunshine” from the whimsical “Sleep Like a Little Pea,” and “Daylight has turned to night, / Shadows will fade from sight, / Float little one, in an ocean of love / ‘Til morning brings its light” from “It’s Nighttime.” Fink & Marxer’s soft, soothing voices and gentle tunes make this collection of bedtime songs perfect for that end-of-day winding-down time.
